Watauga Guidance

Watauga Elementary School Guidance

Counselors:  Janice Moseley and Donna Resha

Welcome to our Guidance and Counseling site!

Watauga students enjoy a class session once a week for 40 minutes with one of our two counselors.  They talk about things like understanding feelings, solving problems, and making friends.

Our class curriculum for the first nine weeks will cover the following TN State Standards:

  • 1.1   Self-esteem
  • 1.2   Pride in Work
  • 1.3   Study Skills
  • 4.1   Careers/Interests
  • 4.2   Work/Options
  • 4.3   Decision-making
  • 4.4   Responsibility
  • 7.1   Uniqueness
  • 7.2   Feelings/Empathy
  • 7.3   Making Good Choices

Sometimes individual students talk with a counselor when they need help with a special problem like a death in the family or a troublesome situation at school.

Small groups of students are formed (with parental permission) to discuss a shared problem or situation such as anger management or a divorce in the family.  The members meet new friends, gain self-confidence and improve coping skills in a safe and fun environment.

We are here to help.  If you have questions, concerns or suggestions please email or call either of us and we will be happy to confer with you.

This six weeks we are studying the character trait of Responsibility.

People who are responsible:
  1.      do what they are supposed to do
  2.      do their best and work hard at what they do
  3.      think about how their actions affect others
  4.      accept the consequences of their choices

We've had a fun ANd educational presentation about how to STAMP out bullying:
Stay away from bullies
Tell someone
Avoid bad situations
Make friends
Project confidence
