P.R.I.D.E. meeting was held on Thursday, September 11, 2008. 23 persons were present. Thank you to Jackie Gupton for taking minutes.
Flashing lights in the school zone were discussed. There would have to be a traffic study done by the City and the survey is expensive. When the school was built, it was felt that a flashing light was not necessary. We plan to propose that the City provide an officer at dismissal time for approximately 30 minutes to help with traffic issues.
October 17 concessions are covered. We may ask volunteers to work either the first or second half, as we had such a great response. If you volunteered and you have a preference, please e-mail Karen to let her know which half you’d like to work.
Jacket Walk is each home game at It starts at the courthouse and goes to SMS. Please attend if you can, especially homecoming. (October 24)

, Band, Mock Trial and go to Westside to highlight Big Brother/Big Sister activities.

broadcast/event is September 19. Folks are encouraged to be there by We still need help with the set up/serving/clean up for breakfast. The kids will eat at If you can help, please e-mail Karen. Plans are being made for a ticket to be distributed to students who come at , so that they can eat breakfast first. It would not be fair for students who arrive at to possibly eat before those who have been there all morning. Younger siblings are encouraged to come with a parent, especially middle school students.
Parent – teacher conference on September 18 from 11-7. The teachers will, most likely, have lunch from 11-12 and the conference will actually begin at 12, .
Homecoming is Friday, October 24. At this time, we do not know where floats will be built. We (PRIDE) are looking into passing out favors at the game; possibly pom poms.
November 16-22 is National Teacher Week.
Mr. Highsmith would like to have open house prior to Christmas break.
Mrs. Rebecca Robertson (teacher) thanked all of PRIDE for making a difference.
The electronic sign for the front of the school has been ordered. $1,500.00 still must be raised or donated to pay for the sign.
Nick Harrington and James T. Marshall are working on a way for us to keep the SHS website updated with PRIDE information.
Freda Herndon would like to check with guidance and have a night for each class to meet to address what’s happening, what’s coming up, what to expect, etc….especially Juniors and Seniors.
