Freshman Academy
The Freshman Academy at Springfield High School is enjoying success in its’ inaugural year of operation. Mr. Greg Bell, Assistant Principal in charge of the Freshman Academy, has identified several areas that are reason for celebration.
Ø Team approach to decision-making. The staff makes decisions by consensus after all members have expressed their opinions.
Ø Common planning time. Teachers discuss and collaborate more than ever before and focus their collaborative time on student achievement, attendance, and behavior.
Ø Celebrations. Students are recognized for their academic progress, citizenship, and improvement.
Ø Consistency among teachers. Consistent policies and procedures enforcement helps students to be prepared and ready to learn.
Rick Highsmith, Principal at SHS, has also observed the accomplishments stated by Mr. Bell and has noted other reasons for celebrating the work of the staff of the Freshman Academy.
ü Increased parental contact.
ü Fewer discipline referrals.
ü Positive public relations with the community.
ü Fewer academic failures.
ü Increase in consistency of instruction in like subjects.
Mr. Highsmith and Mr. Bell are anxious to look at hard data but both believe the Freshman Academy is already making a positive difference in student achievement at Springfield High School.
Congratulations to the staff and administration for all of you hard work and for your dedication. SHS is on the move in the right direction!
